There are so many happenings in our day-to-day activities that lead to sleeplessness; as there is always a time in our life when we lost sleep to either stress, worries or anxiety from work. The good thing is that; this type of sleeping disorder resolves on their own within one to two weeks. The problem began when we start having sleepless night lasting for months or more. This type of sleeping problem is called insomnia, and you need to call a doctor immediately.
I understood the importance of quality sleep, but when you take a sleeping pill in order to gain sleep is a big issue. Although, taking sleeping pill may proffer solution on a short-term base causing a long-term harm – trust me. The sleeping pill does not treat the actual cause of your sleeping problem. That is why; I will not assume any prior-knowledge; so, I am not going to leave any stone unturned as regarding – sleeping pills.

Sleeping Pills are drugs used to aid, induce or maintain sleep; they are also classified as "sedative hypnotics," which include benzodiazepines, barbiturates, and various hypnotics. Here are some of our habits that aid sleeping problem. So, the first thing to do is to check if posse any of these habits.
- Watching TV in bed

REM was coined from “Rapid Eye Movement”; it is a cycle that occurs during sleep. During this period, your eye will move and dart quickly beneath your eyelids; increasing your brain activity.
REM sleep makes up about 30% of our sleep cycle and first occurs about 70 to 90 minutes after you fall asleep. REM Sleeping represents about 30% of our sleep cycle. Meanwhile, we enter REM sleep, several times during sleep because our sleep cycle repeats.

- It helps you dream while sleeping
- It is the restorative part of our sleep cycle

Just like every other medication, sleeping pills are not also free from side effects either! This might not be noticeable to you until you tried using a sleeping pill, but one thing is sure – sleeping pills will make you sleep without REM sleep.
Sleeping Pills Disrupt Your REM Sleep!
- Driving risk: This is likely to happen because the effects of these pills are still on you even after some hours.
- Dependence on sleeping pills: When this occurs, you will not be able to sleep until you take a sleeping pill. I am sure this is not what you like to experience anyway.
- Next-day drowsiness: This is when you become drowsy because of the previous pill effect.
Alternatives to Sleeping Pills
